First Stop: Boston, Massachusetts
Hi World,
I am currently in Massachusetts for four days for an orientation about a mission trip I will be participating in in Mexico, Maine. Basically, the purpose of this mission is to repair homes within the Mexico region while spreading the faith of our religion to unite the community in the light of God. This mission is through Beyond Sunday Missions with the Holy Trinity Parish here in Quincy, Massachusetts, and their main focus is to provide aid for those in need within the New England area while also uniting the communities simultaneously. While I was in Boston I took advantage of every focal point the city has to offer in which I will share with you.
Of course the refreshing sight of ocean and the beautiful and old fashioned New England houses came into view as we touched down on the runway of my second home. The nice smell of sea breeze and the sweet memories of family slowly crept into my mind as I left the Logan International Airport headed for dinner with my family at Stella’s Italian restaurant (Stella’sBoston.com) on Washington St. Mass. To top off the evening, the service was quite “extra” as I got to meet a new friend named Isaac, working for the summer in Boston and studying in the US until he returns to Sonora, Mexico. The next morning, I got up bright and early to attend a pancake breakfast at Trinity Parish to raise money for the Mission Trip in addition to meeting many new friends from the Quincy area whom will be my companions in Mexico, Maine. Finally, I went to a comfort food restaurant called Stephi’s in Southie on the South end of Boston, with an enjoyable patio and an eclectic atmosphere of the beautiful city. While visiting Boston, keep note to make a stop at the beaches of sand, sunsets, and smiles. With the toasty climate in Massachusetts, the bitter water is quite refreshing on a bright summer’s day! If you are feeling extra adventurous, a short boat ride would take you straight to Cape Cod, Nantucket, or Martha’s Vineyard, with their quaint destinations ornate with many shops and restaurants. I visited Wollaston beach during my visit for a quick hour of sun before eating at a local fixture, Tony’s Clam Shack, where the freshest seafood is served only for the summer season. Be sure to order a lobster roll or the famous fried clam platter. I did have the opportunity to visit Harvard Square, Where there lay eclectic outlets galore! From ethnically diverse shops to restaurants, to one of the most famous Universities in the World, Harvard, this square is full of elation and fascinating sights. Unfortunately, on my short trip to Boston I did not have the opportunity to make the exhibition to my favorite coffee shop called PS Gourmet Coffee (http://psgourmetcoffee.com) in Dorchester, Massachusetts, but when I say gourmet I sincerely mean that! PS is known for their delectable “buckets,” just slightly bigger than a Starbucks grande size. These are full of sugar and goodness to keep you going throughout your busy day! Finally, if you are looking for a nice day at the park for photos or relaxation, the Boston commons is the perfect place to unwind, refresh, and enjoy the beautiful nature amongst a chaotic city behind its borders. Swan boats are provided for a detour around the park and duck tours are also available if you are willing to tour the city and then splash into the pond as the wheels of the bus turn into a floating boat! There are several public ponds and pools for younger children to relish as well as the Children’s Museum (http://www.bostonchildrensmuseum.org), on Congress St. Boston, Mass. Around the city you will also find several other art museums such as The Isabella Stewart Gardner Museum, the Fine Arts Museum, and The Science Museum, Etc. Another interesting location to visit would be Plymouth Rock, where the pilgrims from the Mayflower landed. Lastly, my favorite place to shop would be Prudential Center and Newbury Street in the heart of the action. In this location are exquisite shops and restaurants near museums and the Boston Commons. So if you ever find yourself lost on places to vacation, Boston would definitely be the place to recess. The kid friendly, exhilarating, and historically rich city will leave you in awe.
